We live in a fast-paced world full of distractions. Between work, kids, church callings, and other responsibilities, it can be difficult to find time to worship in the House of the Lord. Mormon temples, more appropriately known as temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, are places where church members try to worship often to renew important covenants with God and receive spiritual guidance.

Members of the Mormon church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) take temple worship seriously because it’s where we perform sacred ordinances to help us achieve salvation. In LDS temples, those ordinances are performed for people both the living and dead because we want all people to receive those blessings.

How can you better make time to visit a Latter-Day Saint temple and make time for these important ordinances? Here are a few recommendations.

Schedule a Regular Time

One of the best things you can do is set aside each week or month to visit the temple. Be mindful of other responsibilities in your life and only schedule time when it seems prudent. There’s no need to attend the temple multiple times a week when other responsibilities negate that. It doesn’t make you less of a saint.

Once per week or even once per month is highly respectable. Assign a certain day as your “Temple Day” and plan accordingly. Hire a babysitter for a few hours and make sure your kids understand that this will be a regular thing. Your children will respect you for making time to serve in the House of God.

Protect your temple time. Treat it as something sacred. Sister Dalebout said, “While the planning can become complicated, the blessings [we] receive for (our) efforts to get to the temple far outweigh the sacrifice.”

Go With Friends or Family

If you make it a regular tradition with friends or family, the added sense of responsibility will help motivate you to the temple doors. Make it a group date with friends. Make it a routine outing with family. Going to the temple with loved ones makes it an even richer experience.

Going to the temple with loved ones is also topped off beautifully with an after-session treat or dinner stop. In the temple, there may not be much time to talk or connect with each other, so making a fun stop on the way home is a great way to nurture relationships with loved ones.

Use It to Serve Others

From the Salt Lake City temple to temple locations across the globe, temples of the LDS church are all about service. Whether you’re going there to perform your own ordinances or ordinances for the dead, Latter-Day Saint temples stand as beacons of service to those past and present.

Consider using temple service as a chance to help members of your congregation. There are those in your ward or stake who might not be able to drive to the temple on their own, so serve them by offering rides. Going to the temple together will also help make it a regular habit.

If you’re able to commit the time, also consider becoming a volunteer or ordinance worker. Having a regular shift to work at the temple will help ensure you make time to serve, and it will open the door for a variety of enriching experiences. If you decide on temple volunteer services, you need the proper clothing. White Elegance can help you with a wide variety of appropriate temple dresses and attire.

Pioneers play a major role in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Salt Lake Valley was settled by LDS pioneers in the mid-19th century, and since then, members of the church have proudly looked back on their pioneer heritage.

Although it’s not common in LDS culture, pioneer costumes are still worn for a few select occasions, such as reenactments of pioneer treks or theatrical performances. If you have questions about how pioneers dressed or how you can dress like a pioneer, keep reading.

Historical Context of LDS Pioneers

LDS pioneers traveled across the country after receiving religious persecution throughout states like Ohio and Missouri. Led by their prophet, Brigham Young, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints resolved to travel west to find a place where they could settle and practice their faith according to their desires.

Naturally, the American West was an untamed prairie at the time, so their clothing had to accommodate the harsh conditions. Function had to take precedence over fashion. Additionally, modesty has always been encouraged in LDS culture, as it is a reflection of the reverence one has for their God-given body.

Materials and Construction of Pioneer Clothing

The most common material to make women’s pioneer apparel was calico. This was an inexpensive and washable cotton fabric. Different layers of pioneer clothing often consisted of different fabrics, though. A linen petticoat was also worn, along with an apron that was also made of calico.

Pioneer men typically wore sturdy clothing made of cotton or linen. They usually wore loose trousers and full shirts that were made to endure a hard day of manual labor. Straw hats were also common to protect them from the sun.

Other common fabrics and materials for pioneer clothing were denim, wool, cotton, or flannel.

Gender Roles and Family Dynamics

Family roles in LDS pioneer times were very reflective of the traditional families today. Fathers were expected to provide and preside over the family while women were mostly charged with raising and nurturing children. This meant that while fathers may have worked outside of the home, mothers took charge as homemakers and educators.

Pioneer Dress Is Practical & Functional

Pioneer clothing had to be made of material that was sturdy and durable enough for demanding household chores of prairie living, such as making meals and laundering clothing and bedding. Aprons were a common item in everyday clothing, heavy boots were worn that were functional through every season of the year.

However, some occasions such as parties, balls, and roundups would call for more festive wear. Women’s formal dresses weren’t dissimilar to everyday dresses but were made of finer materials and utilized bolder, darker colors. Patterns for these dresses were often traded amongst friends and found in catalogs.

Evolution of Pioneer Dress within LDS Communities

Naturally, as the garment industry evolved, so have renditions of LDS pioneer clothing. No longer is clothing made from the wearer ordering fabric and sewing dresses and trousers themselves. Now, machine-made fabrics are made with fewer imperfections and from more comfortable material.

While pioneer clothing is still regularly worn by FLDS church members, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints rarely wear pioneer clothing anymore. However, few scenarios, such as pioneer trek reenactments or theatrical productions, may call for traditionally inspired pioneer dresses.

The Legacy Continues

The impact of pioneer clothing is still felt in LDS culture today, especially in the realm of modesty. Whereas most pioneers wore modest clothing for practical reasons, such as guarding themselves from the elements, LDS church members today wear modest clothing as a reflection of their spiritual commitment. They see their bodies as gifts from God, so they avoid extremes in dress and hairstyle.

Winter Wedding Venue Inspiration

When planning for a winter wedding, you don’t have to stress about whether your outdoor venue will get rained out or if there will be large temperature swings. Instead, plan in advance for the cold and make your guests and space as comfortable as possible. There are many different outdoor and indoor venue options for winter weddings. Some of our favorites include:

Cozy Rustic Barns

Barns provide some of the most magical outdoor venues for winter weddings while still providing a warm place protected by the elements and spacious enough for large groups, dining, and dancing. For rustic and outdoor-themed weddings, barns offer a beautiful backdrop and are easy to spruce up with winter greenery, twinkle lights, candles, and more. Many barns have also been converted into venue rentals, so you don’t have to worry about transforming a space to be wedding-ready, and many are located in suburbs and neighborhoods, so travel isn’t difficult.

Elegant Ballrooms

Consider booking a ballroom for your wedding celebrations for an exquisite and opulent feel. Ballrooms are glamorous and are the perfect backdrop for glittering gowns and memorable wedding celebrations. Choosing jewel colors such as emerald, ruby, sapphire, and amethyst with gold or silver for your wedding colors will make everything feel rich and luxurious. Decorate with mirrors, crystal, and metals to make things sparkle and shine. You can also use velvet or satin for table runners, floral arrangements, and sashes to tie your decorations together literally and figuratively.

Snowy Garden Settings

Smaller indoor venues nestled in snowy gardens are also a great way to have an outdoor feel with the comfort of warmth and protection from the elements. Consider expanding outside if the venue permits with covered pavilions and portable heaters. You can decorate with bare branches, twinkle lights, faux icicles, and more.

Winter Wedding Menu

The menu for your winter wedding is critical to bringing comfort and warmth to you and your guests during the celebrations. Provide warm dishes and drinks that are hearty and filling, and your guests will thank you! There are a variety of filling and comforting main course options that can be meat or vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free. Some of our favorite options include:

  • Soups and stews
  • Pot pies
  • Roast dinners
  • Stuffed bell peppers or mushrooms

Hot cocoa bars are a fun way to spread warmth and cheer among your guests. You can pair it with desserts that embrace the season and the sweet tooth, like donuts, holiday cookies, cupcakes, and more. You can also consider other hot drinks, like mulled cider or herbal teas. Be creative with your winter theme in both your food and beverage choices.

Warm and Cozy Wedding Attire

Comfortable wedding dresses are a must for winter weddings. You will be in your gown for pictures, the ceremony, the reception, and more, and you want a dress that will keep you comfortable and warm. Long-sleeved dresses for a winter wedding are an excellent option for both the bride and bridesmaids, and there are so many luxurious fabrics and designs to choose from that are unique to winter wear.

Long-Sleeved Gowns

Winter bridal gowns with sleeves are elegant, flowy, and simply stunning. They are also more universal, and many can be worn during religious weddings and sealings that stipulate long sleeves. Choose a gown you feel beautiful in. You can embellish it with lace, beads, sequins, or sashes. Don’t be afraid to layer or include generous long sleeves or a train. Some of our favorite winter fabrics include:

  • Velvet
  • Thick Lace
  • Beaded fabric
  • Tulle

Faux Fur Wraps and Shawls

You can embellish your bridal look with a faux fur wrap or shawl. Doing so brings depth to your outfit, unique and stunning photos, and, of course, added warmth! You can also explore wraps or shawls for your bridesmaids. Plaid wraps bring color and warmth to your event. Gray or ivory faux fur is also a great color. You can also consider matching coats for your bridesmaids instead and forego matching dresses.

Footwear Considerations for Snowy or Icy Conditions

With many paths and trails icy, muddy, or snow-covered in the winter, don’t be afraid to explore more unconventional footwear to pair with your dress. Heeled or flat boots, sparkly tennis shoes, or faux fur-lined flats are all great options. You can find shoes in ivory, silver, or white, or bring color to your attire with more vibrant jewel colors or tartan.

Planning and Logistics

Remember to keep the amount of daylight in mind as you plan your special day! Sunlight makes for safer travel and better conditions, so consider beginning your festivities earlier in the evening to accommodate cautious travelers. You can still easily dance until dark!

As your wedding date moves closer, remember to watch the weather so you can plan travel time accordingly. If your wedding venue is in the mountains or hard to access in inclement weather, ensure overnight options are available for you and your guests should you face unexpected weather challenges.

A painstaking amount of work goes into planning a wedding, and the bride shoulders most of it. You’ll spend months deciding on the perfect wedding cake, searching for your dream wedding dress, choosing the right location, and much more.

During this stressful but exciting time, you’ll be tempted to put your mental, emotional, and physical needs on the back burner to free up time and energy for wedding planning. This is a common mistake that we want to help you avoid! If you want to feel and look your best on your wedding day, you must devote time to yourself now to establish healthy habits. Here are some of our best tips for staying healthy as your wedding day approaches.

10 Healthy Habits for the Bride-To-Be

Practice Self-Care

Prioritize your mental and physical health. Establish a daily self-care routine where you spend as little as 30-60 minutes doing something that will improve your mental or physical health. A little self-care will go a long way toward your mental health and feeling less overwhelmed with the whole process. In your busy schedule, make sure you don’t sacrifice time for doing the things that keep you healthy, happy, and grounded.

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is perhaps one of the most important tips anyone can give you…ever. Make sure you drink plenty of water as you’re bustling around, crossing off your wedding to-do’s like searching for the perfect venue or the right dress. Staying hydrated has many benefits, such as improved brain function, digestion, energy, healthy-looking skin, and much more. It’s just one of those daily healthy habits that will help you prepare for the big day.

Practice Healthy Communication

It can be hard to keep healthy communication going in the middle of wedding-planning stress. Too often, relationships with our fiancés take a back seat, which can lead to resentment and hurt feelings. One of the most healthy habits you can have is to practice good communication skills, including fully listening while your partner speaks, validating their feelings, and asking plenty of questions. Establishing solid communication skills will not only benefit your relationship during the engagement, it’ll help you have a happier marriage, too.

Focus on Healthy Eating

There’s plenty of focus on looking perfect or expecting to be a specific size by the time your wedding day arrives, leading many brides into restrictive or unhealthy diets. Instead, focus on eating a healthier diet with fewer empty calories and more nutrients. Get plenty of healthy fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins. Not only can this habit benefit your health for many years to come, but it will also give your body the energy it needs to power through the upcoming months.

Keep Moving

We all know the importance of exercise, but how can it help brides prepare for their wedding? Staying active will not only help you stay fit, but it also helps to reduce stress, keeps you happier, and helps you stay healthy for your big day. All it takes is 30 minutes of daily exercise to improve your physical health, mood, and brain function.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is one of the most critical factors to your overall health, and skimping can leave you falling short in many areas. Try to get about eight hours of deep sleep each night. To help you get the sleep you need, set a bedtime timer to notify you when it’s time to hit the sack. Before bed, turn off all screens to ensure your body can sleep deeply and restfully.

Meet with a Hairstylist

Every bride wants to look their best on their big day, so we recommend meeting with a hairstylist a few times to practice your ‘do. If you work closely with your trusted stylist, you can create a plan to ensure your hair will look exactly as you’d like for the big day. A stylist can also recommend products and regimes to keep your hair looking shiny and healthy before the wedding.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Planning your wedding day is stressful, but keeping things in perspective is essential. After all, it’s only one day of your life, and heaping unnecessary stress and expectations on yourself doesn’t help. It’s not worth stressing over the tiniest of details that your guests will likely overlook. To keep things in perspective, make a list and start prioritizing the most important elements of the big day. This will keep you from overthinking the minor details.

Start a Journal

Writing down your thoughts at the end of a busy day helps you process emotions, maintain perspective, and establish and achieve specific goals. Penning negative thoughts on paper will help remove them from your mind, while creating a list of everything you’re thankful for will help you keep things in perspective. You can also try adding positive affirmations and writing down goals to keep your healthy habits.

Maintain Relationships

Our social life dramatically impacts our overall well-being, and it might be tempting to put it on the back burner when you feel overwhelmed. Instead of spending spare time on the couch, overthinking floral arrangements, meet up with a friend or family member for a relaxing social outing. These plans don’t need to be elaborate; connecting is all that matters.

Congratulations! You have accepted the call to serve as a sister missionary for the Lord, and we admire and support you. Your eighteen-month mission will be one of the best, most challenging, and most rewarding times of your life as you work hard and experience change first-hand.

At White Elegance, we hope to prepare sister missionaries of all ages, shapes, and personalities to serve their best and be their best by providing unique, quality, affordable clothing for your temple and mission experiences. Our dresses, skirts, and tops are easy to care for and designed to last, making them a fantastic addition to your missionary packing list. Are you wondering what items need to be on your LDS sister missionary packing list? Discover our top recommendations below.

Our Recommended LDS Sister Missionary Packing List

As stated on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints’ website, “As you are an authorized representative of Jesus Christ and His restored Church, your appearance is often the first message others receive. It should be consistent with the sacred message you are called to share.” You are also called to serve in a unique place with a specific climate, differing temperatures, and various seasons. As you prepare your packing list, let these two principles guide you:

  • First, remember that you are a representative of the Lord and choose items that will best help you represent Him and do His work.
  • Second, remember to pack based on your mission’s climate, temperatures, seasons, and recommendations from your Mission President. For example, if you serve in an area with cold temperatures and snow, you will need a warm coat, boots, and layers for the outdoors. If you serve in a tropical environment, you can leave the warm things at home but may need other items specific to your mission.

Sister Missionary Essentials

Your mission president will include a packing list with essential items relevant to your mission; you can and should use this as your first reference. In most cases, you will be able to purchase and get items out in the field, so you do not need to bring an entire 18-month supply of most things. However, there are a few essentials that all missionaries should prepare to pack, including:

  • Personal hygiene and toiletries, such as makeup, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, lotion, razor, hair brush, chapstick, sunscreen, feminine hygiene products, etc.
  • Small first aid kit and any necessary medications
  • Picture ID, passport, copy of your patriarchal blessing and mission call, and other paperwork needed for travel and your mission
  • Personal set of scriptures. You will receive scriptures in your mission language at the MTC and can purchase many study helps, books, journals, and more at the MTC.
  • Sheets and towels
  • Pictures, a journal, and momentos from home

Do NOT bring any of the following items: weapons of any kind, computer, phone, smart watches or unauthorized electronic equipment, daily planners (you will receive one on your mission), playing cards or unauthorized hobby equipment, musical instruments, radios, or extra reading material.

Sister Missionary Clothes and Shoes

You will want to pack missionary clothes that are comfortable, durable, professional, and something you will want to wear again and again! Choose neutral and basic colors for your skirts and slacks, like black, beige, gray, and tan. Then, find tops in colors and styles you love that pair well with different items. We recommend the following:

  • 6-8 dress shirts, such as blouses, tops, and sweaters
  • 6-8 skirts
  • 4-5 dress slacks
  • 3-4 sister missionary dresses
  • 2-3 pairs of comfortable, low-profile sister missionary shoes for everyday use
  • 1 pair of dress shoes
  • 8-10 pairs of temple garments
  • 5-6 shirts for bed, exercise, and service
  • 5-6 bottoms for bed, exercise, and service
  • 8-10 pairs of socks, including ped socks and exercise socks
  • 1 pair of tennis shoes for exercise and service
  • 4-5 bras
  • 2-3 sports bras
  • Nylons, tights, and slips as needed
  • Slippers
  • Shower shoes as needed
  • Coat, jacket, and/or rain jacket as needed
  • Hats, belts, and accessories as needed

Know What’s Trending in 2023 When You Shop Modest Wedding Dresses

As documented by many online bridal sites, New York Bridal Fashion Week offered a mix of fun, unique, and modest wedding gown styles for 2023. These fashion trends can help inspire you to create the wedding dress and look you want without sacrificing budget, style, or modesty. Below are some of our favorite trends paired with White Elegance’s best modest wedding dresses.

Sheer Fabrics

Layered, sheer fabrics are trending for modern brides, both as a single layer and layered with other materials for a whimsical, fantasy bridal look. At White Elegance, we have three styles of modest wedding dresses that incorporate sheer fabrics and create an elegant, modest gown. Our Marseille Bridal Gown has sheer, scalloped trim at the neck and sleeves that match the material of the front fly-way panels. Our Springville Bridal Gown has sheer lace that overlays the dress for a beautiful look. Our Madison Bridal Gown has light fabric over a fully-lined skirt, creating a sweeping, elegant look.

Capes & Gloves

Floor-length capes offer an elegant, flowing look that stands out in pictures and are easily removed without messing up hair or altering the dress underneath. Capes can be made using semi-transparent fabrics to make your dress stand out, or they can be more detailed and opaque, allowing you to detail them with beading, ruffles, sequins, or other embellishments. White Elegance does not currently offer capes, but you could easily purchase or make one that would match one of our conservative bridal gowns.

Gloves are another trending item you can easily pair with one of White Elegance’s simple, modest wedding gowns. Whether you pair elbow-length gloves with our short-sleeve dress, A Simple Affair, or opera gloves, wrist gloves, or glovelettes with our long-sleeve collection, it’s easy and affordable to jump on this trend.

Our long-sleeve dresses that would look best with a cape, gloves, or both include:

Feather Embellishments and Floral Detailing

Feather embellishments and floral detailing are other popular trends that you could easily add to our more simple dresses. You can do so by stitching large 3-D florals or feathers to the skirt or bodice of our Holland Bridal Gown or London Bridal Gown. If altering dresses isn’t your thing, check out our dresses that already highlight intricate floral detailing in the lace, such as our Savannah Bridal Couture, Springville Bridal Gown, and Venice Bridal Gown.

Bows

Bows are a popular feature in 2023 wedding dress trends. You can easily add a large bow, either with a sash or attached with a few stitches, to any of our dresses. Or, you can add smaller bows or ties using the same stitching method. Imagine a row of tiny bows down the back of our Venice Bridal Gown or a beautiful sweeping satin bow at the back of our Marseille Bridal Gown. Your bows could even hold a hint of color, such as pastel blue or pastel pink, which are both popular colors this year. Our styles that would best highlight beautiful bows are our Venice Bridal Gown, Marseille Bridal Gown, or Springville Bridal Gown

Long Sleeves

Long-sleeve bridal gowns are in style this year, making White Elegance gowns an excellent affordable choice for your wedding day. All save one of our beautiful modest wedding dresses have long sleeves, including:

Our long sleeve gowns are constructed with soft, stretchy fabric that is comfortable for all-day wear and fits all different body types. With White Elegance’s simple and affordable long-sleeve styles, you can look your best for your big day. Whether you purchase our bridal gowns for your piece de resistance, as a second wedding dress for your rehearsal dinner or small ceremony, or as a temple dress, we know you’ll love the price and the style.

White Elegance started from the ground up and has turned the company into a community staple, making beautiful dresses and clothing for many occasions, including LDS temple dresses and modest wedding dresses. We believe what sets White Elegance apart from many others is our commitment to quality and focus on beautiful designs; we give women affordable, elegant dresses that they will love to wear on their special day.

How White Elegance Found their Niche

In 1994, Tamera Perkins and Anna Barbieri, two sisters passionate about providing elegant clothing for temple use, began White Elegance. After asking their friends and family where they could find beautiful, elegant LDS white temple dresses, they recognized the need for dresses that women would love to wear.

The idea was incredibly successful, and after just 18 months, it had grown to include 36 representatives in 10 states. After the sisters found their success in providing temple dresses for women, they expanded their offerings to include special clothing for every family member. You’ll find men’s and women’s temple clothing, temple endowment dresses, baptism dresses, blessing and christening outfits, and first communion dresses in our clothing collection.

As one of the first boutique stores that expanded to the online world, White Elegance is proud to offer its products to anyone around the world. Any of our products can be shipped to your door with just a few clicks.

Quality Dresses Handmade in the USA

At White Elegance, we believe what sets us apart from other dress companies is our commitment to making high-quality, beautiful, handmade dresses in the USA. We strive to create clothing that is not only affordable but beautiful and long-lasting. We make clothing for members of the church and anyone who needs special occasion clothing. Let’s take a look at the design and manufacturing process of our products.

Beautiful, custom clothing designed in-house

Not many clothing companies can say that they design and locally manufacture most of their clothes. As Head Designer at White Elegance, Lisa Raty leads the way in providing modest but beautiful LDS temple gowns and more for women during any stage of life. Since joining the company in 2009, she has created every design in-house, producing patterns exclusive to White Elegance. Using her creativity, she is constantly sketching and designing new silhouettes for clothing, drawing patterns that many of our customers become familiar with and become their favorite dress throughout the years. Our Halifax dress is a new, simple yet modern LDS temple dress that has a timeless style.

Quality fabric that is durable and long-lasting

White Elegance hand-selects quality fabrics from around the world that are custom-dyed to create our unique designs. Designing and sewing our clothes in-house in the USA allows us to control quality while providing the customer with a durable dress that can withstand years of use. While our white LDS temple dresses are beautiful and elegant, they are durable enough to last years, easy to wash, and comfortable for hours of wear.  We love the Summerville dress, a fully-lined dress with a natural waist and a v-neck trim adorned with beautiful lace.

Inclusive sizing

As a women-led and owned company, we recognize that the fashion industry has left many American women behind when it comes to sizing options. At White Elegance, we’re proud to offer inclusive sizing for all of our customers, from XXS to 4XL, and petite, regular, and tall lengths. We believe that every woman, no matter their size, should have beautiful clothing they can feel confident and comfortable in, regardless of the setting or occasion. Each LDS temple dress is designed to be complementary to every woman. One of our favorites is the London, an all-white dress with stretch-lace bodice that is designed to look gorgeous on every woman.

Customer-led fashion

When designing our temple dresses, Lisa Raty says she begins the process by listening to what the customer wants. Because our White Elegance team is so involved in the community, we can receive valuable feedback from our customers. We believe that creating customer-led fashion is so important because our buyers are the ones living in their clothes, and we strive to make fashion that works for them. Each of our designs has been tested and has received overwhelming praise from our customers. If you’re looking for a customer favorite, may we suggest the Madrid? This button-down embroidered dress has plenty of positive reviews and looks beautiful on any woman.

LDS Baptism Dresses for Her Special Day

Your little one’s baptism day is such an exciting day in her life! You can make it even more special when you find a beautiful, well-fitted dress that makes her feel like a queen. A beautiful dress marks the occasion and reminds her of the importance of baptism each time she wears it. Having a quality dress guarantees that it will last and will bring you both joy each time she puts it on.

The Importance of an LDS Baptism Day

Baptism is a covenant or a promise you make with God. When your daughter chooses to get baptized, they promise to follow God and His commandments and remember Him as best as they can. When someone is eight years old, they can make a choice to get baptized. People choose to get baptized at many different ages, from 8 years old to 100 years old.

A worthy man who holds the priesthood, the power of God on earth, will have the privilege of baptizing someone. Often, the priesthood holder is someone special, like a dad, grandpa, or uncle. Baptism is performed by immersion, which means you go all the way under the water and come back up. Baptism by immersion signifies death and rebirth to a new life.

After someone is baptized, they will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost helps Christians feel God’s love, comfort, and guidance throughout life.

What Do You Wear to an LDS Baptism?

Due to the sacredness of the baptismal covenant, your family’s guests will wear their Sunday best to the baptism. Sunday best is skirts, dresses, and pantsuits for women and shirt and tie for men. All are welcome to come to a baptism; Sunday dress is simply a way to show the baptized and God that they respect their decision to be baptized and want to support them.

When your little one is baptized, both her and the person baptizing her will wear all white. Most often, a white jumpsuit is provided for her and the person baptizing her. If she has a special white dress she wishes to get baptized in, she can bring her own white clothing. Just make sure that her clothing isn’t transparent when wet! You will need to pack a dry change of clothes to change into after the baptismal ordinance, which is most often your special baptism dress.

Common Questions About LDS Baptism Dresses

Are there any special requirements for an LDS Girls Baptism Dress?

If she chooses to be baptized in her baptism dress, it must be white and not transparent when wet. These are the only two requirements. Some choose to get baptized in a dress, and others prefer to wear a white jumper provided by ward or stake leaders.

Do Baptism Dresses for Girls Need to be White?

A baptism dress only needs to be all white if she will wear the dress to be baptized in. If she  is wearing her dress before or after the baptismal ordinance only, it can be any color. Traditionally, dresses have been all white, but more and more girls are choosing to accent their white dresses with a little color, either directly on the dress or with a removable bow or flower.

Can a Girl Wear her White Baptism Dress during her LDS Baptism?

She can wear her white baptism dress during her baptism. However, many girls choose to get baptized in a jumper. That allows them the option to wear their dress after the baptismal ordinance. It is also a simpler option, as she won’t have to worry about the dress floating up or the hassle of changing out of a wet dress into a dry one.

Your wedding day is one of the most beautiful, special days in your life. Your love and commitment make it so, as well as the dreaming, planning, and spending that occur months before the big day. How much you budget and spend can be tricky to navigate. The wedding market is a multi-billion dollar industry that pressures many brides-to-be to spend more than they have and more than they can afford. White dresses considered “wedding” dresses are marked up an estimated 3.9 times more than their non-bridal counterparts simply because it is viewed as a “wedding” dress. This extreme mark-up does not always mean the wedding gown is of better quality or fit; it only means that the word “wedding” is attached.

At White Elegance, we firmly believe that all brides should have the opportunity to look radiant on their wedding day without going into debt or overspending on their budget. We avoid all mark-ups and pass the cost savings on to you. Yet, affordable does not have to mean cheap. At White Elegance, it means honesty and quality, affordable wedding dresses in Utah and across the globe.

The average cost of bridal gowns in Utah, including LDS modest wedding dresses, is $1,000. White Elegance modest wedding dresses average $100. It is possible to find affordable, modest wedding dresses and not break the bank for your special day.

What to Look for When Shopping for Affordable Wedding Dresses

There are three things to keep in mind when shopping for LDS affordable wedding dresses. Make sure your dress is:

  • High quality
  • Fit for the temple
  • Flattering to you

High Quality

You do not have to sacrifice quality for a lower-priced dress. Make sure your gown is fully lined and made of high-quality, wrinkle-resistant fabrics. Look for a dress that emphasizes quality from production to completion. At White Elegance, we search worldwide for the best materials and manufacture most of our products in the USA to better maintain a high-quality standard. Each bridal gown is fully lined and thoughtfully created for a flattering, graceful look.

Fit for the Temple

Due to White Elegance’s thoughtful designs and modest bridal attire, you can continue to wear your wedding dress as a temple dress on later visits to the temple. Doing so saves you money and stands as a special reminder of your wedding day. It can be stressful to have to modify an existing dress to be temple-ready or to purchase an additional dress to wear in the temple and change after the ceremony.

Flattering to You

You should feel comfortable and radiant in your beautiful dress. The dress you choose should have a size that perfectly fits your body and makes you stand out as the beautiful bride. Avoid dresses where you constantly tug or pull at areas that make you uncomfortable or irritate you. You have your entire wedding day to enjoy!
